"Río Negro reminds me of the early Jazz Messengers. Back in the 1950's, when the Messengers first got started, they too were the young Jazz Lions of their day, talented, gifted and brought a fresh sound to the Jazz scene. When I first heard Río Negro, I knew right away that I wanted them to showcase their music at our WRFG Paul Mitchell Community Jazz Awards and POW!, our audience was floored by their presentation!"

- Phil "Captain Mellow" Clore - Jazz Music Department Manager, WRFG 89.3 FM Atlanta

Music Room - Salsa Performance by The SalsaBELLES

Art Room

The salsaBELLES of the ATL, is an all female Salsa performance group consisting of 10 women who have excelled to Masters Level with SALSAtlanta Dance Studio.

We are dedicated to dancing a particular style of Salsa known as Rueda de Casino. This dance evolved in Havana Cuba in the 1940s and later in Miami. The Cuban immigrants brought their music and customs to the United States with breathtaking combinations of spins and footwork. The dance is best viewed with several pairs dancing in a circle. One person calls the name of a step, and all the pairs execute the step at the same time, frequently changing partners around the circle. This is how the name 'Rueda'(Roo ay dah) developed, which means 'wheel' in Spanish. The result is a fast paced, beautifully synchronized, exciting dance.  We like to call our shows "Rueda de Casino with a feminine touch".
